John, who was formerly a firefighter for the NSW Railways, longed to be a traveller on the rails again.
78-year-old former RAAF and NSW Railways fire fighter, John, is living with advanced prostate cancer battling those fires ignited by symptoms, diagnoses, and treatments. Emerging recently with more energy and a delight that his hair had grown back.
His dream was to “to be in an environment where I am a normal traveller and not a patient receiving intensive and frequent treatment”. John and wife of nearly 30 years Viviane planned to see Australia by train, with Dreams2Live4 able to help out with the first leg of the journey. After John said “It was wonderful to be able to be able to travel again after having to cancel our plans last year due to the cancer diagnosis. With no disrespect to our wonderful hospital and all health professionals who have helped, it made a nice change to be travellers again, queuing for check in and the only matters to ponder were choice of dessert or pre dinner drink. We were a normal couple again, with the health challenges left behind.”
The rhythm of the rails, delivering the dream. Awesome.
