Shake it off - for the night

Young was aged 44 when diagnosed with an aggressive sarcoma (soft tissue cancer). He has had a series of serious medical events since his diagnosis in late 2023. A patient at Westmead Hospital, Young undergoes chemotherapy on a regular basis. He is a devoted husband and father of two children aged 5 and 3.

Despite the challenges, Young has remained positive and determined. He finds solace in listening to music, and spending quality time with his wife, Cherie, and their children.

Young explained that his dream was to go on a date night with Cherie to see Taylor Swift live.

“I love nothing more than seeing my wife, Cherie happy. So knowing Taylor Swift was coming to Australia, I knew we had to go and see her, if possible, with my health challenges. My wife’s favourite Taylor song is ‘Shake it Off’. I am so excited to see her face and enjoy some one-on-one time, outside of a hospital setting for the night,” says Young.

“When Young Jae Kim applied for a dream, he wanted something positive that both he and his wife could look forward to. Our Dreamers diagnosis doesn’t just change their life, but it impacts their partner and family too. We’re thrilled to make this dream come true for Young and Cherie. Knowing that they can spend the evening ‘shaking it off’ will provide them both with much needed respite and a sense of hope and joy,” said Dreams2Live4 CEO and Dream Maker, Louise Mahoney.

Thanks to a donation of two tickets by partner organisation Western Sydney club, Mounties. Dreams2Live4 have been able to fulfill Young’s dream, with the duo attending The Era’s concert on the Sunday night at Accor Stadium, Sydney.

“We believe in the power of community and are committed to supporting individuals and families during difficult times,” said CEO of Mounties Group, Dale Hunt

“It’s been a ‘cruel summer’ for our family indeed. But we’re excited to ‘Shake it Off’ for the night,” laughed Young.

Thank you to Mounties Group for helping us to make Young’s dream come true.
