Deidre dreamt of seeing iconic Australian landscapes, with her family who have supported her through her cancer journey.
Queenslander, Deidre, has been on a cancer journey since she was 39 years old and 7 months pregnant. Diagnosed initially with bone cancer she says, “I’m truly lucky to have survived and I now have a healthy 23 year old daughter, who is my reason to live and breathe.”
In 2006 her cancer came back and metastasised to her lung and with surgery following. In 2016 she needed to have her right lung removed which has left her quite breathless at times. Through her cancer journey her operations have left her with chronic conditions and limited movement in her arm. She had to give up working as a theatre nurse after 25 years describing that development as “devastating to loose my career.”
Deidre also told us “I love nature - my dream is to experience iconic Australian landscapes and wildlife,” with her family who have supported her through her cancer treatments.
Dream Makers along with the generous support of the James Frizelle Foundation helped make Deidre’s dream come true saying “thank you — from the deepest part of my heart — for the sacred, spiritual, and soul-nourishing holiday in Uluru. The energy we felt from Uluru and the presence of the Indigenous people was breathtakingly beautiful. There was a deep spiritual connection that touched us all — grounding, healing, and powerful. We were surrounded by peace, awe-inspiring landscapes, and a sense of something greater than ourselves.
To be alive, to feel the love of my family, and to share such a sacred experience with them — it’s something I will hold dear in my heart forever. I often reflect on how far I’ve come, and this trip reminded me why I kept fighting through the hard times. It was a dream come true in every sense.
You gave me more than a holiday — you gave me cherished memories, deep healing, and a reminder of what matters most in life. “
Beautiful.
