A favourite movie and 'slimy yet satisfying' grub was the inspiration for Natalie's dream.
Hakuna Matata – means no worries for the rest of your days! Our Dreamer Natalie, 34, who is living now with advanced cancer - told us that growing up the Lion King was her favourite movie. “I’d watch it over and over on the VCR until someone taped over it.”
Remember the moment during the song where Simba experiences his first real moment of his new world? He ate a fat little grub and described it as ‘slimy yet satisfying!’. Well Natalie, since being a child, decided that she wanted to give a grub a try – a witchetty grub! She loves trying different foods “for a long time I have had an interest in indigenous food and foraging. I have tried many of the more popular ingredients such as emu eggs, Geraldton wax, finger limes, green ants, Davidson plums, lemon myrtle, saltbush etc. So naturally I want to try more… like the famous witchetty grub.”
That’s definitely a first for our Dream Makers and try as we did unfortunately witchetty grubs are just not readily available in NSW, even despite employing the best efforts of Australia's renowned Indigenous Chef Mark Olive who hoped to procure a grub for Natalie and friend Rebecca to try at his award-winning restaurant Midden, at the Sydney Opera House. Instead, the pair told us after the dream meal that “dinner was very interesting and so well done. It was so delicious, and we were able to try so many ingredients in ways we had not before.”
Our sincerest thanks to Doltone House for facilitating this dream and to Mecca Beauty who ‘made over’ Natalie and Rebecca (and Pumba!) before their big night out - making them all feel relaxed and so beautiful!
So supporters if anybody has any connections with access to witchetty grubs – do let us know because we would still love to help Natalie achieve her slimy yet satisfying dream. ![]()
In the meantime – Hakuna Matata to you all. ![]()
