Getting right in the heart of the action at the MCG
Nate is like many 19-year-old Australians — he loves his sport. Whether it’s playing cricket or cheering on his team, the Adelaide Crows, sport is a huge part of his life.
Now living with advanced brain cancer, Nate’s dream was simple but powerful: to see the Crows take on Collingwood in Round 1 at the MCG, surrounded by his mates — all passionate footy fans.
It had been 4,248 days since the Crows last beat Collingwood at the MCG. And not only were Nate and his friends there to witness it — they were right in the heart of the action.
They stepped onto the oval during warm-up, took part in the Guard of Honour, and Nate was invited into the pre-game huddle. After the win, he joined the players to sing the club song — a moment that meant everything.
“The team got around him, made him feel like part of the group — even handing him a Gatorade bottle ready to tip over our debutants. It was something he’ll remember forever.”
We can’t thank the Adelaide Crows enough for going above and beyond — not just for the win, but for the care and generosity they showed Nate and his friends. “Thank you for giving us the opportunity to help make Nate’s wish come true. It was a privilege to meet him and be part of creating these memories.”
Thanks to all those who helped make this dream so special including Glenn Erickson, Delphine Jesier and Lisa Tymoshenko from the wonderful Pullman on the Park, Melbourne, Adelaide Oval, Adelaide Crows Holly Leonard-Robinson, Adam Kelly, Matthew Nicks as well as the all the players.
