Blake 31 has lived with cancer for most of his life with the Adelaide Crows providing a safe space and an escape.
Western Australian Blake is just 31 and has been living with a cancer roller coaster for the past 17 years, having been diagnosed with leukaemia at 13, advanced thyroid cancer, and more recently non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
His dream was to meet Taylor Walker (Tex) his favourite Adelaide Crows player and to see the Crows when they played in Perth. Telling us “I don’t think I quite love anything more than the Adelaide football club - it’s an escape, I feel at home and in a safe space when watching the Crows play.
After Blake said "I had a dream of meeting my favourite player Tex Walker, today that dream became a reality. Going thru cancer is hard and lonely but the Adelaide FC have been with me for the last 17 years while I've battled three types of cancer. Having cancer sucks but it’s also given me so many opportunities in life that I wouldn’t have been able to have, and today was one of them. Feeling very grateful today."
Our thanks to Taylor Walker, Tom and Holly from the Adelaide Crows and Darren Chandler CEO of SANFL for being so accommodating to our Dreamer – inviting him and wife, Shayne into the training game, meeting the players, and then attending the game on Anzac Day.
