Realising Keena’s wish to honour life, family, and joy in every moment
"I choose positivity every day". That's what Keena our now 40-year-old Dreamer from Esperance in WA wrote after describing her journey with stage 4 breast cancer.
Keena was 37 and living the busy everyday life of family, whilst supporting a friend on her own cancer journey, when she found a lump. Living so far from Perth meant aligning her biopsy with other appointments, and despite trying to stay positive she said, "The day felt different, the room was quieter, the doctor more serious, and deep down I think I already knew my life was about to change". What followed was the whirlwind of treatment, surgeries and traveling backwards and forwards for appointments. "Through every step, Russel has stood quietly but strongly beside me, holding our family together and giving me courage when I struggled to find it myself".
Now Keena is concentrating on, "living fully, finding joy in the small moments, laughing with my kids, staying active, and appreciating the love that surrounds me".
Her dream was to create a "Festival of Keena" as a fun-filled celebration for her 40th birthday. "Reaching 40 is something I once truly believed I might never see. This is why my dream is so deeply meaningful. Having a day where we can forget hospitals and appointments, and simply celebrate being alive, being together, and making joyful memories."
Keena celebrated her birthday with a band the Goodstock Trio who entertained friends, family and had an absolutely fantastic night. Saying, "Thank you so much for Dreams2Live4's help in making this happen, it was exactly what I dreamt of".
