Wrapping my palliative care days around the things that matter most
45-year-old, Jane, is living with advanced cancer, and is being looked after at Mona Vale Palliative unit on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. With her sister Kirsty, Jane wrote to us about “wrapping my days around the things that really matter most. For me, that’s always been the people I love. Nothing fills my heart quite like time spent with dear friends and family — those who bring laughter, lightness, and joy.”
A celebration of life and love
Her dream was to “gather with my nearest and dearest for one more shared meal — simple, warm, and full of love. A little celebration of life, love, and maybe even a late birthday toast.”
She added that her dream food was from Stella Blu Restaurant & Bar in Dee Why “as it’s long been a favourite and holds so many beautiful memories. Having their food brought in for a shared lunch here, surrounded by the people who mean the most to me, would feel like being transported back to those joyful times. It would truly lift my spirits and be the most meaningful gift.”
We are so humbled that Stella Blu totally came to the table – donating their time and talents as well as their delicious sharing platters and pizzas. Thank you to Nick Salerno and the Stella Blu team for your generosity. We are delighted that Jane along with her friends and family were able to enjoy her special dream on a beautiful winters’ day.
Jane sadly passed away a week after her gathering but not before she had her dream of a little celebration of life and love realised.
