A bucket list - Dreams2Live4

"Normal is underrated" when your diagnosed with advanced breast cancer

“Normal is very underrated” says Melanie now 53, as she described her cancer journey. Saying “I was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer in 2018 when my children were 13 and 16 years old. At the time it was terrifying and as a single mama, I struggled with not being around for my children. With prayer, amazing friends, supportive family and an incredible health care team, the disease stabilised, and I have been able to work part time and for the most part, enjoy a normal life. I think that is one thing that becomes very clear when you're presented with this situation, is that normal is very underrated.”

A dream to create new memories

Since early 2024 her cancer has progressed and she is now dreaming of a special week away with her now adult children “to create new memories, spend quality time together, and sit in spaces that allow us to be, without constraints or business of life”.

A bucket list

She added “When people ask what my bucket list is - it's easy - it's being here for my children and creating new memories with them. Sun, new experiences, swimming, space and time would all be a blessing, and time for dancing!"
Thanks to the support of Tour de Cure, Melanie, Charlie and Georgie made some new memories together with a getaway for the family.
